How Does Meditation Music Help?

Many people, myself included, have found meditation music to be a tremendous help in daily life. It’s an easy way to calm down and focus during busy times. Meditation music helps reduce stress levels.
Stress affects every aspect of your life. It causes anxiety, which in turn causes ranging from mental to physical symptoms. Headaches, stomach pains, and tiredness are some of the most common, but they can also lead to depression, sleep difficulties, and difficulty concentrating.
More and more research is indicating that music can help reduce stress levels. A study found that infants remained calmer for longer when they were played music rather than spoken to – even when speech involved baby talk. Another study found that children who listened to music for a full day showed less behavioral aggression than those who listened to speech. However, they showed no difference in physiological arousal.
So, what type of music should you play for meditation?
Researchers recommend that music comes from our parent’s or neighbors’ homes for many of us. These places, with their echoed sounds, provide a sense of security and belonging that’s hard to achieve otherwise. Whatever music you play, using headphones that allow you to listen to the music privately is an active choice to improve your mental health.
Headphones help block out distractions.
Headphones help you focus on what’s important.
Headphones keep you calm and relaxed.
Using headphones for meditation music
I use a variety of styles of headphones for different things. For example, I have a set of headphones for traveling – they’re comfortable, convenient, and have good sound quality. But if I had to choose one style of headphones for this purpose, I’d probably go for a set that offered a bit more flexibility in terms of style and weight.
That’s because I don’t care about the look of my headphones – I want them to do their job. So I’m not too picky about which pair I use. But if you are, there are probably a few styles that will be more manageable for your situation.

Stressed at Work? Play Some Music!
If you’re stressed at work, perhaps you should consider playing Delta wave music for pleasure while you’re on the job. Research has shown that music can help reduce stress – especially when it’s a known stressor.
That’s right; one study found that listening to music increases the ability to handle stress by 38%. Even more compelling is that the benefits of music appear to last for at least 30 minutes, suggesting if you listen to music while you’re working, you will be able to maintain focus and achieve more in the time you’re working.
But why do music players always seem to be loaded with Courtney’s? According to a study by researchers from the University of Helsinki in Finland, listening to music increases the amount of dopamine produced in the brain – a mood-enhancing chemical, making it a feasible treatment for depression.
So next time you feel stressed at work, try listening to some music for pleasure instead.
